PATH CONDITION: Dusty, stoney trail with a gentle ascend. No shade
HOW TO GET THERE: From Tortoli take the main road SS125 north to Lotzorai. Approx.700m through the town turn left onto the SP56 signposted to Talana. Continue for appox.13km, cross the river then turn left still following signs to Talana. The road ascends for approx. 4km until arriving at the town of Talana. Pass through the town following the signs to Nuoro. You come out the other side, go over the bridge and continue for approx.1.3km until turning right and up following signs to Nuoro. At the top the road flattens out, continue for approx. 600m until turning left onto the slip road following the signs to Monte Olinie. Continue on this tarmac road for approx.1.5km past the donkeys until arriving at the dirt trail on the left and parking area
THE TREK: Leaving the parking area behind follow the trail to the left. It swings right after approx.600m and follows a ridge giving lovely views of the Ogliastra to your left. Continue ahead for approx.1km past the trail that slopes down to the right. Continue ahead for another kilometer until the final ascend around the bends to the hut at the top of Monte Olinie. This final ascend is the steepest part of the trail. Return the same way you came
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Map recommended. Beautiful views of Ogliastra from the path and the hut at the top. No refreshment points nearby. Local wildlife includes cows, donkeys, goats, horses, snakes and lizards
